Measles Vaccination At Yeqwethet Office

Measles is a vaccine preventable illness. There is an increase in cases in BC and the Fraser Valley in 2025. Risk to unvaccinated children will increase in the fall, especially as cases in neighboring provinces increases.

Measles can be dangerous because:

  • One in 10 people with measles will get middle ear or lung infections requiring hospitalization

  • One in 1,000 people with measles will get encephalitis (swelling of the brain), which can lead to seizures, deafness, or brain damage.

  • One to three of every 1,000 people with measles will die.

  • Measles is extremely contagious, with up to 90% of susceptible individuals contracting the disease when exposed to an infected person. It is spread through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes, and the virus can remain in the air for a couple of hours, potentially infecting those who enter the space later.

Vaccination Info:

  • Routine at 1 year of age and Kindergarten

  • Most adults have been immunized. If you are unsure or do not have records, you can still get vaccinated (2 doses)

Please make sure your children are up to date on their vaccinations. Immunizations are offered in our Yeqwethet clinic. Contact us 604-796-9601.
